In this article we will discuss how to make stun gun at home?
Stun Gun is a popular type of self defense gadget. It emits electric shock when touched into someone’s body and paralyzes the person for a little while. It acts upon the neuromuscular system of the attacker leaving him unable to act or function. Stun gun has taken its inspiration from Taser or Thomas Swift’s Electric Rifle used by commandos in 1952. However, Stun guns are not as powerful as Tasers but are preferred for individual use.
When it comes to making stun guns at home then there are several ways to do it. Some people make stun guns out of their iPod, but the most preferred option is to use a disposable camera.
Here is the process to make stun gun with a disposable camera:
- Get hold of a disposable camera and soldering irons
- Remove the upper plastic cover of the camera
- Take away the battery inside to avoid shock
- A small light bulb will be visible. Remove the bulb carefully without disturbing other parts
- Two pieces of small copper wires will be visible around the bulb
- Solder one wire on to each one of these. Take care not to solder all the wires together
- Put the battery back where it was
- Press the button and touch the wires to an object to see whether your self made stun gun emits shock or not
- For making the cover of the stun gun, get hold of a hard but flexible plastic that can be glued easily
- Cut the plastic to fit the stun gun inside and make a case by sticking with glue
- Leave a small hole where the button is
- For extra protection, you can cover your stun gun with rubber hand gloves.
That was an easy way to make a stun gun at home. Isn’t it? However, the question is that although making stun gun at home is feasible, is it advisable to use homemade stun guns?
Challenges In Making Stun Guns At Home:
- Safety: It’s not very safe to make stun guns at home as you can get electric shock while testing them if the wires are not properly soldered. Also using homemade stun gun does not ensure that you don’t get a shock back. Homemade stun guns are very susceptible to pass electric shocks while manufacturing and when it is actually used.
- Quality: Homemade stun guns are definitely not durable options. The protective cover that you use need not be efficient enough to protect the stun gun from water and heat.
- Legality: There are many states in US that do not permit the use of stun guns. There are some that permit the use of it only if it is brought from a licensed firearm shop and other related stores. Thus, even if you can make the gun at home, not necessarily you can use it legally in your state. You need to check the legality of a homemade stun gun in your state.
- Cost Effectiveness: In case you have a disposable camera that is lying spare after use, then it makes sense to create your stun gun out of it. Buying a disposable camera for the purpose of making stun gun is not a wise idea because the cost of a stun gun is much lower than a disposable camera.
Making stun guns at home is easy and simple but definitely there are a few challenges involved in it. Until and unless you have a mechanical bent of mind, making your own stun gun may not sound very exciting. There are so many interesting and inexpensive options available in market that making stun gun at home seems a tedious exercise.
